Northumberland A1 Safety Alliance

It's Not Rocket Science

The Northumberland A1 Safety Alliance was founded by Kezz Petronelli-Stone and Richard Shell in response to long-standing concerns about safety, reliability and economic resilience along the northern A1.

The campaign quickly gained support from residents, businesses and community representatives, leading to engagement with Northumberland County Council, local MPs and the North East Mayor.

The Duchess of Northumberland later joined the alliance as its patron.

Our Story

NASA was established by co-founders Kezz Petronelli-Stone and Richard Shell, two prominent Northumberland operators who refused to sit by while vital rural infrastructure continued to crumble. Stone is what many would call "a fixer". He is very good at bringing together the right people & negotiating the fairest outcomes. Shell brings a powerful commercial perspective as a major local employer and owner of venues & hotels within the area’s thriving hospitality sector. Having witnessed daily how the dangerous, single-lane stretches of the northern A1 put lives and local commerce at risk, they joined forces as equal leaders to demand change.

The response was immediate and undeniable. Within its first week of launch, NASA amassed over 1,500 active followers on Facebook, prompting immediate invitations to meet with the leaders of the County Council, the local MP, and direct correspondence with the regional Mayor. By week two, Stone and Shell secured their first official campaign patron in the Duchess of Northumberland—proving instantly that the alliance is a serious, highly influential political force, and definitely not to be mistaken for bit players.
