About Water Watch

The Time On Our Water Ways Is Ticking

Water Watch is an independent initiative investigating pollution, ecological decline and accountability across Northumberland’s rivers and coastline.

Founded by Kezz Petronelli-Stone, the project brings together local knowledge, documented evidence and specialist input to understand what is happening, identify responsibility and press for practical action.

Our work includes examining sewage discharges, runoff, habitat decline, monitoring data and the response of water companies, regulators and public authorities.

Water Watch welcomes photographs, incident reports, official correspondence and other evidence from people who live, work or spend time near Northumberland’s waters.

The Water Watch Story

Water Watch was born out of profound urgency and shared outrage. Furious and deeply upset by the near-criminal abuse of our seas and waterways, the Duchess of Northumberland stepped forward and directly asked Kezz Petronelli-Stone to launch a definitive investigation. While this high-profile backing officially ignited the initiative, the groundwork had been quietly laid for years.

Kezz and Bamburgh ward councillor Guy Renner-Thompson had already spent a long time investigating the growing crisis along our coastline. Together, they had been working at the absolute grassroots level—organising beach litter picks, consulting closely with Beadnell Parish Council, and taking the fight directly to meetings with Northumbrian Water. Now, with the passionate backing of the Duchess elevating their years of quiet vigilance, Kezz has begun aggressively compiling hard data, tracking pollution sources, and gathering undeniable evidence. The clock is ticking to save our precious waterways, our marine life, and the coastal communities that rely upon them. Water Watch is here to ensure that those responsible are held to account before it is too late.
